It Had to Be You, Log 1/??? [Audio]

Hello?

[The audio crackles, buzzes into the correct tuning, and there's the click of a dial. A distinctive, very proper, English voice speaks over the comm unit. At least she's familiar with radio enough to manage this much.]

Is anyone there? This is...my name is Evelyn Carnahan, and this is not Cairo or Hamunaptra.

[A pause.]

I don't know where I am, and I was right in the middle of something very important, and this is exceedingly inconvenient. If someone could-

[Rustling noises.]

-if someone could please tell me what's going on, I need to find my brother, Jonathan, and our guide, Rick, as I was in the midst of an expedition, thank you, I'm in...I think it's a foyer.

...anyone?

[For those interested in seeing Evelyn in person, seeing as the last thing she can remember was falling into a river off of a boat, she's wearing a soaking wet nightgown. This. This will not stand. This is scandalous.]

[An Egyptologist? That is a profession he has yet to hear of.]

Would you be able to conduct your own research? Perhaps receive funds from another benefactor to do so?

Unless there's a collection of the books I require, I highly doubt it. Most of my profession weighs heavily upon field experience, and there don't appear to be very many deserts and ruins around this manor.

Is there some manner of library here?

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-15 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[As he says with a smile.] I was speaking of when you return.

But to answer your question, yes. There is a library here in the mansion. And I must say that it is the largest I have ever seen. Whatever publications you require, the library will more than likely provide.

[Thank goodness; at least she can find solace within the books. Books don't talk back or try to shoot you.]

When I return...I'm not sure what will happen. I was in the middle of an expedition of my own before I came here.

[Evelyn sounds wistful. It had been going so smoothly up until men in black boarded their ship and attacked her.]

Hopefully we'll find what we were looking for. I'm determined to further my work whether or not the museum funds it.

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-15 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Where were you on this expedition, if I may ask?

[Hmm...obviously she, or her team, was searching for something uncommon.]

And my guess is you were in search of a rare item to bring back to the museum...?

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-15 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in Egypt, of course. [She laughs.] And yes, I was searching for a very rare artefact: The Book of Amun-Ra.

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He responds with his own chuckle.] Cairo, then?

Hmmm, I don't believe I have ever heard of such an artifact. Amun-Ra, on the other hand, I have. What is so special about this book you are searching for?

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
We'd left Cairo by boat not but a few hours earlier.

[Oh. Oh, my goodness, someone actually knows what she's talking about! This is very exciting!]

The Book of Amun-Ra is one of the most famous books in history out there. It contains within it all the secret incantations of the Old Kingdom - these spells could supposedly take life away from mortals, and so the Egyptians feared it enough to hide it in the City of the Dead.

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Remarkable. I can only wonder if these spells do actually work.

[Before he seems crazy for proposing such a thing, he chuckles before continuing.] And I only say that since a number of residents come from worlds where special abilities and powers are the norm.

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...special abilities and powers? What, do you mean...like...magic?

[Here, have Evelyn's thoughts on magic in the form of girlish giggles.]

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He responds to the giggling with his still neutral, yet light, tone.] Not magic. More like super human abilities.

Perhaps offering a demonstration would allow you to understand what I mean.

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A demonstration. Of magic.

[Right, and she's the reincarnated daughter of Seti I.

...wait.
]

You can't be serious, Mister...?

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[A sigh.] If magic is what you would like to call it, then yes.

Oh, I believe you'll find that I am very serious. [He chuckles.] My name is Albert Wesker. And you are?

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Evelyn Carnahan. And I don't believe in mystic hokum or...or other such magic, Mr. Wesker. I believe that if I can see it and touch it, then it's real.

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
A pleasure, Miss Carnahan. And if that is the case, then you will be in for a surprise in regards to Wonderland and its residents.

As I mentioned before, I am willing to offer a demonstration.

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I...

[Strangers with deep voices and promises of magical abilities sound dangerous.]

...I'm not sure if I'm quite ready for that, now. I've only just arrived here...would you mind saving the demonstration for a later date, Mr. Wesker?

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[He can sense the hesitation and skepticism in her voice. Perhaps another time would be best.]

Mmm of course. Arriving here is quite a lot to handle in and of itself. My apologies if I have made you uncomfortable in such a proposition.

[audio]

[identity profile] libraritology.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that-

[It totally is.]

-I'm just tired-

[She's totally not.]

-and I ought to find a room to retire to for the evening. But thank you for contacting me.

[audio]

[identity profile] viral-tyrant.livejournal.com 2011-07-22 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Is he offended? Nah.]

My pleasure. And if you need anything in the future, or have any inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me.

[His tone is calmer. No need to scare the new guest.]

Do take care, Miss Carnahan.
