[The audio crackles, buzzes into the correct tuning, and there's the click of a dial. A distinctive, very proper, English voice speaks over the comm unit. At least she's familiar with radio enough to manage this much.]

Is anyone there? This is...my name is Evelyn Carnahan, and this is not Cairo or Hamunaptra.

[A pause.]

I don't know where I am, and I was right in the middle of something very important, and this is exceedingly inconvenient. If someone could-

[Rustling noises.]

-if someone could please tell me what's going on, I need to find my brother, Jonathan, and our guide, Rick, as I was in the midst of an expedition, thank you, I'm in...I think it's a foyer.

Well...Jonathan is my older brother, and Rick is-

-our guide. Cairo is a city in Egypt, the country I live in, and Hamunaptra...it was where we were going, the three of us. To the City of the Dead.

[Evie laughs. It's probably the first time she's laughed since arriving here.]

We didn't die - Hamunaptra is an archaeological site. In the olden days of Egypt, it was where the people used to bury their dead. We were merely trying to find it to further my research.

[ LEARNING EXPERIENCE! ]

No, no, I wanted to find a book!

No, [Evelyn says gently, continuing.] The Book of the Living. It's called the Book of Amun-Ra. Legend says that the book was buried under the sands at Hamunaptra thousands of years ago. It's a very important artefact.

The Book of Amun-Ra is a spellbook. It's rather counter-intuitive, actually. While the Book of the Dead supposedly brings people back from beyond the veil, the Book of the Living takes life away.

To be honest, while I don't believe that there's magic of any sort surrounding these rumours, I do know that it's been my dream since I was a little girl to find the City of the Dead, a place untouched for centuries upon centuries.

[Another laugh.]

I don't want to kill anyone. I want to prove that the book exists, translate it, and present it as a dissertation to the Bembridge Scholars. They're a group of people-

[Men, actually.]

-who specialize in my field. I want to be recognized for my work, and I want the stories of Egypt to be passed down through generations as truths, rather than myths.

Well...if you put it like that, I suppose so, but I'd much rather just prove to the Bembridge Scholars that they ought to accept my application to their school.

There's an island off the coast of England called the Isle of Wight. The Bembridge scholars are there, and are leading academics in the field of Egyptology. They've had quite some influence on the subject. I'm hoping to study at their facilities.

Bembridge is just the name. The scholars study all manner of subjects, including the one I'm interested in.

Schoolfeeding? I've never heard of such a term before.
